Autumn Wedding at The Barns at Hunsbury Hill

Niki & Iain’s Charming Wedding at The Barns at Hunsbury Hill

During September, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Niki and Iain’s wedding at The Barns at Hunsbury Hill – a beautiful, rustic barn venue nestled in Northamptonshire. With its enchanting grounds and fantastic staff, this place has quickly become one of my favourite spots to capture unforgettable wedding memories. Every time I return, it brings something fresh, and this day was no exception.

I arrived early, as I always do, giving me a chance to soak up the atmosphere, chat with the staff, and scope out new locations for those all-important creative portraits. Niki and Iain had booked me from the ceremony onwards, and by the time I arrived, Iain was already there, buzzing with excitement, ready to take on the big day with his best man by his side. And the weather? Absolutely perfect – sunshine from start to finish, adding even more magic to the day.

As guests arrived, there was such a heartwarming buzz in the air as loved ones hugged, laughed, and made their way into the ceremony room. Niki looked breathtaking in her gown, while Iain was every bit the dapper groom! What truly made the ceremony unforgettable was the presence of their beloved dog, adding a touch of warmth and joy that everyone felt. Moments later, they were pronounced husband and wife – congratulations, Niki and Iain!

Afterwards, we stepped outside for the classic confetti shot. I always love these moments; the energy and joy are unmatched as confetti rains down, and Niki and Iain’s family and friends didn’t hold back! With drinks and nibbles in hand, guests relaxed and caught up, while I captured some group shots and, of course, a few portraits with the newlyweds and their four-legged family member.

As the reception moved back indoors, Niki and Iain chose to have their speeches before the meal, which, in my opinion, is a great call – it means everyone can truly enjoy the food without any lingering nerves! The speeches were heartwarming, full of laughter and happy tears, and set the tone for the rest of the evening.

Once the speeches and meal wrapped up, guests spilled outside to make the most of the warm evening while the barn was prepped for the evening reception. Lawn games were in full swing, and I had a blast capturing everyone’s competitive sides over rounds of Jenga and hoopla. As the sun began to set, I whisked Niki and Iain away for a few more portraits. I don’t like to keep couples from their guests for too long – after all, it’s their wedding day, not a photoshoot! But the soft, golden light made for some stunning shots and a beautiful, relaxed moment for them to enjoy.

Then it was back to the barn for the much-anticipated cake cutting and first dance. Niki and Iain made their entrance onto the dance floor, made all the more magical by a cool smoke machine that added a dreamy, atmospheric vibe. Their first dance was mesmerising, and as soon as it ended, guests flooded the dance floor, ready to show off their moves and celebrate the night away.

Before wrapping up, we had one final treat – sparklers! There’s something timeless about a sparkler send-off; everyone got involved, lighting up the night and waving their sparklers with big smiles. It’s interactive, it’s fun, and it always adds that extra bit of magic to end the day. There’s just something about a sparkler that brings out everyone’s inner child – it’s like handing over a bit of magic!

Before I knew it, the day had flown by. I packed up my gear, reflecting on what a truly special day it had been. Huge congratulations to Niki and Iain on their new adventure together, and thank you both, along with all your family and friends, for making me feel so welcome. And, of course, a big shout-out to the Barns at Hunsbury Hill team, who worked tirelessly to make the day unforgettable. Here’s to many more magical weddings at this wonderful venue!

“If your looking for a photographer for your big day then stop, you’ve found him. Lewis was brilliant from start to finish. He understood what we wanted from the day and many of the guests commented on his relaxed and flexible approach. He would balance getting the right shot with allowing us time to enjoy the day.” – Nikki & Iain
