Bride and groom with sparklers at night celebration.

Autumn Wedding at Dodmoor House.

Dodmoor House, an exclusive barn style wedding venue in Northamptonshire.

If you’re familiar with my work, you’ll know how much I adore capturing weddings at the fabulous Dodmoor House. I’ve been fortunate to photograph numerous weddings at this charming barn venue, and the excitement never wears off. From the delightful surroundings to the fantastic staff, Dodmoor House truly has it all.

So, imagine my joy when I got booked to return and document Sarah & Edward’s special day. I was entrusted with capturing every moment, from the morning preparations right through to the first dance and beyond. Sarah & Edward had planned a laid-back wedding day, ensuring ample time to spend with their nearest and dearest – a brilliant choice. We had a chat about a month before the big day to go through their wedding timeline and discuss all things wedding-related.

After our lively Zoom call, I was eagerly anticipating the unique moments their wedding day would bring. Sarah & Edward were keen to let my creativity flow, putting complete trust in my vision, especially for the wedding portraits. I never push couples into spending too much time on portraits, but when they’re up for it, I strive to craft unique and creative shots every time. Luckily, Dodmoor House is the kind of venue where you can visit a thousand times and always discover something special for a wedding couple.

I arrived bright and early at Dodmoor House to set up, chat with the staff, and prepare for the exciting day ahead.

I captured both the bride and groom getting ready, with Edward and his best men looking sharp in their kilts and providing plenty of laughs. While I spent most of the morning with Sarah in Dodmoor House’s bridal suite, Edward and his crew added a lively touch.

Sarah looked absolutely stunning in her wedding dress, and the first look with her proud dad just before the ceremony was a heartwarming moment. Guests arrived, radiating happiness and ready for the festivities. In no time, everyone was seated in the courtyard barn for the ceremony, and Sarah walked down the aisle looking incredible, with Edward beaming with happiness. The ceremony breezed by, and before they knew it, they were officially Mr & Mrs.

After the ceremony, we moved to the courtyard for confetti and drinks, where joyous faces were everywhere.

Group shots and portraits were captured, leading us into the Catesby barn for the wedding breakfast and evening reception. Again, a big shout out to Sarah & Edward for being so open to my ideas for bride and groom portraits. Dodmoor House’s stunning grounds and nearby spaces provided the perfect backdrop.

The wedding speeches were a riot, filled with hilarious stories about Edward from his parents, complete with a projector showcasing him as a young child. Speeches are a delightful time to discover another side of the couple, and Edward and Sarah’s constant hand-holding throughout spoke volumes about their love.

The evening was a whirlwind of fun, with everyone hitting the dancefloor for traditional Scottish Ceilidh Dancing. It was a first for me after all these years in the wedding industry. Following the dance fest, we headed outside for sparklers, and capturing those shots is always magical.

The rest of the evening zipped by, and as I packed up, I couldn’t help but reflect on what a fantastic day it had been. To Edward & Sarah, I wish you a lifetime of happiness together. Thank you for making me feel so welcomed on your special day. Cheers!
